Reading a van without hardware

A diagnostic adapter is the quickest way to get measured evidence today, and it works now. It is not the end state. Four routes remove the hardware, and they are honest about what each one still needs.

Connected-car account

Prepared — needs authorised access

Most electric vans built since about 2019 already send charge, odometer and location to the manufacturer. The owner signs in to their own manufacturer account and grants VeriEV read access, either directly or through an authorised aggregator.

Gives Charge, odometer, location and charging state without touching the vehicle.

Needs A commercial agreement and API credentials with the manufacturer or an authorised aggregator. Nothing is scraped and no manufacturer app is automated.

Fleet telematics already fitted

Prepared — needs the operator's consent

Larger operators already run tracking units that report mileage, and increasingly charge as well. Where the operator authorises it, VeriEV reads their existing feed rather than asking drivers to fit anything.

Gives Mileage, journeys and often charge across a whole fleet at once.

Needs The operator's written consent and their provider's API access.

Phone-only capture

Next build — partial evidence only

The phone records distance, speed, stops, gradient and duration for the journey. The driver enters charge at the start and end, or photographs the dash. The journey itself is measured; the charge figures remain driver-entered.

Gives Accurate distance and driving conditions with no hardware and no permissions.

Needs Nothing external. This is the fallback that always works, and it is deliberately kept at a lower evidence level than a vehicle-reported reading.

Vehicle fingerprints from other drivers

Grows with the pilot

Once enough journeys exist for a model and battery version, a new driver of the same van starts from that fingerprint instead of a brochure figure — then their own journeys pull the estimate towards their particular vehicle.

Gives A useful first answer on day one, with no hardware and no set-up.

Needs Volume. This is the part that cannot be copied quickly, because it is built from completed journeys rather than published specifications.

How the levels stay honest

A figure typed by a driver stays a claim. A figure read from the vehicle, whether through an adapter, a manufacturer account or a fleet feed, is vehicle-reported. Independent testing is higher still and cannot be entered by hand. The route the evidence took is always shown beside the answer.

No connected-car, telematics or charging provider is currently connected. Nothing on this page describes a live integration.

Working today: pair an adapter or check a job by hand.
