Battery method
How condition and range are estimated
Current calculation version: bh-2026.09.1. Conclusions are recalculated when the method changes; raw evidence is never rewritten.
Capacity and state of health
- · Declared usable capacity is used where it is sourced, not assumed from the badge.
- · Observed energy use across recorded journeys is compared with distance covered to infer usable capacity.
- · Charging sessions contribute charge accepted against state-of-charge change, allowing for charging losses so capacity is not overstated.
- · Imported BMS, OBD or telematics values raise the evidence level but are still owner-supplied unless independently tested.
- · State of health is expressed as a band around the inferred usable capacity, widened when evidence is thin or inconsistent.
Range bands
- · Summer, winter and loaded bands come from the same capacity estimate with different consumption assumptions.
- · Temperature, payload, road type and climate use each widen or shift consumption.
- · A usable reserve is always kept back; range is never quoted to zero.
Confidence
Confidence follows the evidence level, the number and consistency of records, and how recent they are. Every result names the level it reached:
- · Level 0 — Insufficient evidence
- · Level 1 — Profile estimate
- · Level 2 — Observed performance
- · Level 3 — Vehicle data supported
- · Level 4 — Independently tested
